The theme is “Make a Fabulous Noise,” meaning healthy, confident, exuberant, imaginative and secure, because we strive to live in a world where all individuals can contribute fully and equally without imposed preconceptions of brokenness or negative stereotypes. No child should be given a message, violently or otherwise, that their life is not worth living. We dedicate our parade, our celebration of life and the highest expression of our talents as a commitment to raise a higher standard for our community, a commitment to build trust, express gratitude for our differences, demonstrate loyalty to the common welfare of our community, show consistent and unwavering love of neighbor and self, and to find the best in each other to assure healthy and productive lives especially for our youth.
Marching band members from North Carolina and Virginia high schools are scheduled to help “Make a Fabulous Noise” a memorable first time experience for the parade. Regional LGBT activist, Joshua Olinger will lead the music for dancing and the telling of his personal story in original compositions at the Farmers Market Pavilion from 4:00 until 5 PM. Josh is the Human Services Director and Diversity Camp Director at the Roanoke Diversity Center, a Project Specialist at The Drop-In Center, a program of the Council of Community Services. He is a singer/songwriter performing acoustic and alternative pop/rock cover songs and other original works.
