Speaker: Adam Trimmer at FloydPRIDE 19 @ Floyd Farmer's Market Pavillion
Sep 28 @ 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Adam Trimmer

Adam Trimmer is both a survivor of conversion therapy and a statewide advocate against the practice. In 2008, following a suicide attempt during his coming out process at the age of 18, Adam was subjected to eight months of conversion therapy in the forms of pastoral care, licensed therapy, individual and group therapy at a Richmond-based ministry, and a series of ex-gay conferences. These experiences were devastating and required years of recovery. Today, Adam is the Virginia Ambassador for Born Perfect. He works directly with lawmakers and local advocates to support protecting LGBTQ youth from conversion therapy; he has also shared his experiences with the Virginia Boards of Counseling, Social Work, and Psychology, which are adopting regulations against conversion therapy. Adam’s mother has also spoken alongside him at some of these board meetings, and they were both featured on a GLAAD Award-winning story titled “Conversion Therapy: God Only Knows” on CBS Sunday Morning in November of 2018. Adam currently lives in Prince George, Virginia.

Born Perfect was created by National Center for Lesbian Rights to end conversion therapy, with survivors at the forefront. Through legal advocacy, and the direction of their national strategist, Mathew Shurka, and now with their first ever state ambassador, Adam Trimmer, the Born Perfect Team is committed to making sure that all LGBTQ youth are protected from the life-threatening practice of “conversion therapy.”

#MeToo Mozart & Little Spark @ The June Bug Center
Sep 29 @ 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm

#MeToo Mozart 1776-2019 is a two-part classical concert program. Presenting vocal excerpts from operas Don Giovanni and The Marriage of Figaro as well as original work for voice, narrative, percussion and singing bowl, Soprano Alicia Windsong Diamond of Abingdon VA collaborates with pianist Sandra Smith and percussionist Jim Best of Floyd to present an exploration of gender, class, and social life.

Mozart and his librettist, DaPonte, use humor, drama, and masterfully crafted character development to highlight the social, gender, and economic disparities of the late 1700s. In the second part of our program, Alicia Windsong Diamond’s story of Little Spark presents a magical, metaphorical tale to inspire and reawaken the joy and purpose within each of us.
Doors will open at 1:30 at The June Bug Center on Sunday the 29th at 2PM. This is the closing event of FloydPRIDE 2019.
Tickets are 12$ online, and 15$ at the door. Reception and refreshments to follow.
